Follow
these simple DIY instructions for 'no meter' self installation.....
All that
you have to remember is that your 'new' dish needs to end
up 'looking' in exactly the same direction and elevation (tilt)
as your old one.
As this
job is usually carried out by an Installer with lot's of fancy
equipment including a compass and a digital meter, some expertise
is required...BUT... If you are just carring out a dish replacement,
rather that a 'virgin' installation, the job is quite simple
for anyone with basic DIY knowledge.
As most
people replace the Minidish with a better and usually larger
model, these 'tips' are designed to cope with all sizes of
dish.
You will
need only a Spirit Level, a Felt Tipped Pen (or crayon) and
a long peice of string with a weight on the end..to use as
a Plumb Line.
BEFORE
starting to remove the old dish, you must secure the 'plumb
line' to the centre of the dish bracket where it is secured
to the wall, so that the 'plumb' hangs down to a position
just above the ground next to the wall of the building
At this
stage, you should mark the ground beneath the 'plumb' by pushing
matchstick or something similar into the ground (just mark
the ground if that is not possible).
Next,
re fix the string to the front end of the boom arm of the
dish, as far forward as possible...Repeat the plumb line process
and use another matchstick to mark the forward position in
the ground.
Now draw
a line (or lay a broomhandle) in line with the two matchsticks....Hey
Presto..You now have you 'new' dish direction marked.
Next,
take your Spirit Level and Pen (or Crayon), up to the dish
face, and position the level vertically so that the ends overlap
the top and bottom edges of the dish, using the pen/crayon
to mark the position of the leading edge of the spirit 'bubble'
so that the 'level' displays the amount of elevation (tilt)
of the dish face.....Thats your 'line of sight' angle 'remembered'
!
Now, take
down the 'old' dish after marking where the centre of the
mounting bracket 'was' on the wall ..Fit any new bracket centrally
over 'that' mark.
Mount
the new dish into the new bracket and tie the plumb line at
the extreme front end of the boom arm as near to the LNB as
possible....Turn the dish from right to left, until the 'plumb'
is directly above the ground line that you have created, and
'clamp' up the 'U' Bolts on the rear of the new dish carefully
making sure to retain the direction setting.
To set
the angle of elevation (tilt), offer the spirit level up to
the face of the dish, from the top edge down to the bottom
edge, as before.
Note the
position of your mark on the side of the 'bubble' and gently
tilt the dish until the same leading edge matches up with
your marking, before tightening up the relevant bolts.
You have
now completed the settings for both the direction and elevation.
All that
now remains to be done, is to reconnect the cable to the LNB
of your new dish, and SEAL the 'F' Connector to prevent the
ingress of water..
This procedure
is identical for all dish sizes but you may need to alter
the angle of elevation slightly to accomodate different makes
of new dish..
This is
best done by refering to the Signal Level that can be seen
'on screen'....
Now
that you know HOW....
